StarCare Specialty Health System (StarCare) is seeking a Part-Time Registered Nurse (RN) to join its outstanding Aging and Disability Services Team.

 

Responsibilities:

Work is performed under minimal supervision of the Aging and Disability, Health Services Director, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.  The RN – Part Time works and has a good rapport with the Health Services Director, Medical Director, and nursing team to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

The RN must possess:

Essential Duties:

Primary functions include:

  • providing skilled nursing care for the geriatric participant(s) in their residence, including nursing homes (NH) and assisted living facilities (ALF).
  • performing assessments as scheduled and/or needed, not limited to but including post-hospital assessments (PH), fall assessments, wound care, medication administration, and any other services that may arise.

The RNPart Time is responsible for

  • being available for scheduled tasks, including on call weekend availability, encompassing evenings and Holidays.
  • Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule and the ability to travel locally, within Lubbock County; some exposure to unpleasant weather/ PRN emergency call.

Duties will include:

  • taking and monitoring vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation), weight, blood sugar levels, and assisting with assessments as scheduled and/or needed;
  • Administer injections and/or medications or observe self-administration of medications;
  • Assist with maintaining medication regimen by calling in refills and filling/make changes to medication pill packs, as needed;
  • Provide urgent physical assessment and first aid and follow-up on incident/injuries;
  • Assess participant health care needs and coordinate and/or refer for hospital/outside care;
  • Accurately inventory and maintain prescribed and over-the counter medications and keep medical records up to date; 
  • report and take direct instruction from RN on-call;
  • Complete and submit documentation by end of shift. 
  • Collaborate and communicate information with supervisor and other Agency employees;
  • Attend scheduled meetings and trainings.

Schedule: This is a part-time/on-call/non-exempt position with the following schedule, with flexibility to meet the needs of the department: 

  • Standard Shift:  Day Shift, Evening Shift
  • Alternating Biweekly: Weekends/Holidays, After Hours Visits and PRN Availability.

On – Call Pay:

  • $25.00/Day Monday – Friday and $75.00/day for Saturday & Sunday and StarCare Approved Holidays.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed in the State of Texas by the Board of Nurse Examiners as a Registered Nurse (Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) (degree preferred), plus four (4) years of full-time experience as a practicing registered nurse is preferred

AND

Must have at least one (1) year of experience with a frail or elderly population, current, up to date immunization status medically, and cleared of communicable diseases.

Prefer experience in home health care setting, with emphasis on interdisciplinary approach to treatment.

 

Skills & Abilities:

Skill and proficiency in oral and written communication, strategic planning, operating a personal computer, with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Access, and email).

Knowledge and skill to operate standard office equipment, i.e., fax, phone, calculator, typewriter, copier, printer, etc.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must pass a pre-hire drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have a Texas driver's license, liability auto insurance, and be insurable under the Agency's insurance.
