Description

StarCare Specialty Health System (StarCare) is in search of a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) to join the Region 1 Outreach, Screening, Assessment and Referral (OSAR) team as a Priority Admissions Counselor.   This position provides targeted outreach, screening, assessment, and referral services to children and adults with opioid and/or stimulant use disorders as well as related behavioral health needs. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a critical access point for substance use treatment services, ensuring timely and appropriate entry into care in accordance with state and federal guidelines
  • Works independently while collaborating closely with internal teams, community partners, and treatment providers to support continuity of care and recovery-oriented services
  • Provides services to individuals identified as needing substance use treatment services
  • Screenings, assessments, outreach and coordination of services.

 

Schedule: This is a full-time/non-exempt position scheduled Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm, with flexibility to meet the needs of the department.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) – required
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a human services field (Psychology, Sociology, Family Studies, or related) required, plus:
  • Must meet Qualified Credentialed Counselor requirements per state guidelines

 Preferred:

  • Experience working with individuals with opioid use disorders
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Experience with crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, or care coordination
  • Familiarity with CMBHS and state behavioral health systems

 

Skills & Abilities:        

  • Knowledge of human services and behavioral health service delivery systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet documentation deadlines
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining collaborative working relationships
  • Knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, and confidentiality requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard office equipment

 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Travel by car up to 50% of work time
  • Work performed in both office and community settings
  • May include long or irregular hours
  • Requires ability to stand, walk, sit, lift, communicate, and use a computer and phone regularly

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must pass a pre-hire drug screen, MVR, and criminal background check.
  • Must have a Texas driver's license, liability auto insurance, and be insurable under the Agency's insurance.
