StarCare is in search of a qualified and compassionate FEP (First Episode Psychosis) Mental Health Peer Specialist to provide supportive services to adults.

 

Responsibilities Include: 

The Mental Health Peer Specialist provides services to adults, children, and adolescents in the community and in clinical settings that are related to an approved individual plan of service. Work is performed under the supervision of the FEP Program Manager, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

  • Work with the client identified support team in the development of an individualized plan of care.
  • Plans, develops, and implements education, peer mentoring and support activities (groups)for consumers and family members on issues related to treatment of serious emotional disturbance.
  • Ensure clients are aware of resources necessary to reach personal outcomes; communicating pertinent clinical information
  • Provide face-to-face contact with clients
  • Work with adults, children and adolescents experiencing an initial break of a psychotic disorder to improve overall prognosis and help them live independently in the community.
  • This position ensures all activities support the Vision, Mission and Values of StarCare Specialty Health System.

 

Hours: Part-time, Monday-Friday, 11 am to 4 pm, with flexibility to meet program needs.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be person with serious emotional disturbance and have sought treatment (lived experience).
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED) with one year of related experience, preferred.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, be compassionate, and have a desire to help people who are struggling with mental illness.
  • Must be able to attend required training and work assigned schedule.
  • Knowledge and skill in operating standard office equipment (phone, copier, fax, etc.,) and personal computer with Microsoft Office products is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of human service delivery systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize a variety of assignments and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with clients/families, other employees, and the public.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must pass a pre-hire drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have a Texas driver's license, liability auto insurance, and be insurable under the Agency's insurance.
