Are you interested in a career in forensic services? StarCare Specialty Health System (StarCare) is in search of a qualified candidate to fill the role of Jail-Based Competency Restoration Case Manager at the Lubbock County Detention Center.

 

The Jail Based Competency Restoration (JBCR) Case Manager provides jail-based competency restoration case management services through the performance of various client-focused activities within the Lubbock County Detention Center. The JBCR Case Manager is in direct contact with a variety of external agencies and participates as a member of the Mental Health Docket. This position works in collaboration with the JBCR Educator, various providers, attorneys, the court system, and other StarCare employees on a daily basis. The JBCR Case Manager is essential in creating individualized treatment plans, consistently assessing the consumers' needs, conducting group sessions, coordination with internal and external agencies, and assisting the Restoration Program Manager and JBCR Educator in completing all necessary documentation and reporting. Work is performed under the supervision of the Restoration Program Manager, and Director of Forensic Mental Health with clinical supervision provided by the Forensic Psychologist. This position is a combination of law enforcement coordination and social work necessary to meet the needs of individuals admitted to the JBCR Program for competency restoration through the state judicial system.

 

JBCR Case Managers must have:

  • The ability to give full attention to what other people are saying (consumers and employees), taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • The ability to monitor and assess the performance of consumers and to make improvements by taking confident and corrective action.
  • Work knowledge of appropriate rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to competency restoration put forth by multiple regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, consumers, outside stakeholders, and the general public.
  • The ability to effectively and professionally communicate orally and in writing.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain security clearance through the Lubbock County Detention Center

 

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • This position requires the ability to effectively communicate consumer concerns and progress with a variety of internal and external stakeholders while having the ability to consult regularly in a team setting. The JBCR Case Manager must also have an extensive working knowledge of statutes, policies, and procedures as well as best forensic clinical practices. Participates in specialized clinical services and/or program development activities in a professional, timely manner providing these duties have been assumed with the mutual agreement of the Assistant Forensics Director and Forensics Director.
  • The JBCR Case Manager conducts regular group and individual sessions where sound clinical judgment (with training) is required. These sessions will guide the Case Manager in creating, maintaining, and modifying treatment plans as necessary for their assigned caseloads. This position also facilitates and monitors not only all aspects of current care and treatment but also discharge planning and ongoing continuity of care which requires timely and professional documentation.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday – 8:00am – 4:00pm, with flexibility to meet the needs of the program.

 

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work in a Human Services field (Human Development/Family Studies, Psychology, Sociology, etc.) with one (1) year full-time experience in a human service field, required.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred.
  • Knowledge and skill in operating standard office equipment (phone, fax, copier, printer, etc.) and personal computer with Microsoft Office products is required (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Must pass a pre-hire drug screen and a criminal background check.
  • Must have a current Texas driver’s license and be insurable under Center insurance.
  • Must have the ability to earn and maintain security clearance with the Lubbock County Detention Center.
