StarCare Specialty Health System (StarCare) is seeking a full time Sunrise Canyon Hospital Social Services Director to join its outstanding team supporting people with mental illness at Sunrise Canyon Hospital (30-bed adult inpatient psychiatric hospital, with future expansion to 60-beds). The Director of Social Work provides strategic, clinical, and administrative leadership for all social work and psychosocial services within the hospital. This role ensures that services are patient-centered, recovery-oriented, equitable, and fully compliant with CMS Conditions of Participation, Joint Commission standards, and applicable state regulations, while advancing the mission, goals, and values of StarCare. The Director leads a multidisciplinary team of social workers, therapists, and interns, overseeing day-to-day departmental operations and collaborating closely with hospital leadership and community partners to support optimal patient outcomes and continuity of care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and oversight for all clinical social services and psychosocial programming within the hospital.
- Direct and manage daily operations of the social services department, including staffing, workflows, productivity, and service delivery.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate social workers, therapists, and interns, fostering a culture of ethical practice, accountability, and professional growth.
- Ensure compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, Joint Commission standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and documentation standards.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team to ensure comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, discharge planning, and transitions of care.
- Evaluate hospital-based and community resources to support safe, timely, and effective discharges.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with community agencies, treatment providers, housing programs, and other stakeholders.
- Lead quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives related to psychosocial services, patient outcomes, and continuity of care.
- Participate in accreditation surveys, audits, tracers, and corrective action planning as required.
- Manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, and resource utilization in alighnment.
- Advocate for patient rights, access to care, and services addressing social determinants of health.
Schedule: This is a full-time/exempt position scheduled Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm, with flexibility to meet the needs of the department. Administrator On-Call (AOC) is required for this position on a rotational basis.

Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited university in Social Services
- Licensed Master of Social Work. One year (1) preferred full-time experience in the field of Behavioral Health.
- Licensed Clinical Social Work preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative or senior leadership experience within an inpatient psychiatric, behavioral health, or similarly regulated healthcare setting.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing clinical or programmatic services for individuals with psychiatric disabilities, including supervision of staff, operational management, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven leadership in regulated healthcare environments with direct involvement in accreditation and oversight activities with TJC, CMS, and/or CARF.
- Experience supporting or leading survey readiness, corrective action plans, policy and procedure development, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance activities aligned with accreditation and regulatory standards.

Additional Requirements:
- Must pass all pre-employment and annual screenings, including drug screen, criminal background, nursing registry, and MVR.
